Hon. Nay Hutn, PhD
Nay Htun is currently Research Professor, Stony Brook Southampton, State University of New York. He is a Fellow and Visiting Professor of International Environmental Policies, Center for Environmental Policies, Imperial College London; Visiting Professor and Senior Advisor, International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics, Lund University, Sweden, Visiting Professor and Member of the International Board of Advisors, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok, Thailand; Honorary Professor, Tongji University, Shanghai, China,
He was Chancellor Distinguished Fellow University of California, Irvine; Visiting Scholar Harvard; Visiting Scholar Fletcher School, Tufts University.
He served in the UN for over 25 years with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, and the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, where he held the rank of UN Assistant Secretary General exceptionally at both organizations. At UNDP New York Headquarter he was in charge of the Asia Pacific Bureau with 24 Country Offices and an annual grant technical assistance budget of around US$400 million. At UNEP he was; Senior Programme Officer / Deputy Director Industry and Environment Office, Paris, France; Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Bangkok, Thailand; and Deputy Executive Director at its Nairobi, Kenya Headquarters He was seconded to the UNCED Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland as the Programme Director supervising the drafting of Agenda 21, generally referred to as the blue print for sustainable development and helped organize the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. At the Secretariat, he was also the focal point for business and industry and helped establish the Business Council for Sustainable Development, Geneva.
Before joining the UN he was Department Manager with Exxon Thailand., where he managed one of the largest Departments with 8 Divisions.
He is a Board Member of a number of not-for-profit research institutions including the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Columbia University, New York.; the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, Hayama, Japan; the International Vaccine Institute, Seoul, Republic of Korea; Editor Sustainability Science Journal, University of Tokyo, Japan. Previously he served as a Board Member of a number of non profit organizations, including the High level China Council for International Cooperation in Environment and Development, Beijing, China; the Stockholm Environment Institute, Stockholm, Sweden; Advisory Council for Environment, International Council of Scientific Unions, Paris, France. He received his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.
Evie Evangelou, World Federation of United Nations, Deputy Secretary General
Evie has devoted her career to international diplomacy. Ms. Evangelou currently sits on the Board of Governors for the Billion Minds Foundation, and is an advisor to the Vice-Chairman of the World Trade Center's Association. Ms. Evangelou has extensive experience working with the United Nations within the framework of creating better human understanding among cultures. She's served as interim Deputy Secretary General for the World Federation of the United Nations at UN headquarters in NYC. She's worked with more than 100 UN Member/States/Countries and Missions, as well as a long list of non governmental bodies focused on education, cultural affairs, and humanitarian causes. She received appointment by Kensaku Hogen, a former Under-Secretary General of the United Nations Department of Public Information, as a Special Consulate for Cultural and Educational Affairs and programs within UNDPI, one of the nine departments compromising the United Nations Secretariat. She was also appointed as a Special Consultant to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the UN theme "Dialogue among Civilizations" to Co-Produce and Co-Sponsor with the United Nations the UN Concert Day, and other culturally oriented programs.
